Anti-Blister Running Socks

Blisters come from three things working together: friction, heat and moisture. A sock cannot change your stride, but it can take on all three.

Why blisters form

When skin is rubbed again and again, softened by sweat and warmed by the run, its outer layers separate and fill with fluid. The heel, the ball of the foot and the toes take the most of it, especially over longer distances. Racing a marathon? See our guide to marathon running socks.

Cushioning in the right places

An anti-blister sock places cushioning where friction is greatest, under the forefoot and around the heel, so the sock absorbs the rubbing instead of your skin.

Keep feet dry

Moisture softens skin and increases friction. A technical knit that wicks sweat and dries quickly keeps skin firmer and less prone to damage. Cotton does the opposite, which is why it has no place in a running sock. More on materials in how to choose running socks.

A fit that holds

A loose sock folds and creases; a tight one pulls. Choose the right size, and look for an arch band and ribbed cuff that keep the sock still inside the shoe. Less movement means less friction. Not sure of your size? See our size guide.

Beyond the sock

Shoes that fit well, laces tied with care and distance built up gradually all play their part. If you tend to blister in one spot, deal with it early. The right sock reduces the risk; it cannot remove it entirely.

How our socks help

The Permanent sock was designed with this in mind: anti-blister cushioning at the forefoot and heel, a breathable, thermoregulating knit, and a crew-length fit with an arch band and ribbed cuff. Designed in London, made in Italy. Shop running socks.
